Brother of the Bride

“What in the ‘Get Out’ hell is going on here,” quizzed the warm, brownish-red woman with the Bantu knots as soon as they were safe inside the gold 1970 Deuce and a Quarter.

“I don’t even know,” chuckled the driver as he jerked his head to get his short dreadlocks out of his line of sight.

“Well, I know you’re the best man and all…”
“What, Meesh?”
“Just be careful. We were the only Black folks besides his mom and grandmother.”
“He’s an only child!”
“But you’re his only Black friend with a Black girlfriend or wife?”
“Maybe that he’s still in touch with. I don’t know.”
‘Well, be careful tonight, Jabaar”

“Yes, ma’am,” he said as he pulled into their hotel parking lot. He escorted his longtime lady friend up to their room. “Guess I’ll see you tomorrow. You got the directions to the church, right?”

“Yeah! You texted me. Get on outta here. I’m sleepy,” she announced.
“Um yeah! Have a good night,” he pecked her on the lips.

Jabaar grabbed his duffle bag and the tux hanging in the closet then headed out. He met up with the rest of the groomsmen at a quaint house rented just for the weekend. In addition to the groom and the other four there was a white guy present who’d been at the rehearsal dinner earlier.

The groom spotted his confusion and introduced them. “Jabaar, this is Collin. Courtney’s li’l bro. Collin, Jabaar!”

“Nice to meet you,” smiled the kid with the wispy brown bouffant haircut and pale skin.
“Hey,” he extended a hand.

“The girls’ll be here in a few,” announced one of the others.

Three slutty white bitches showed up scantily clad and ready for the fun.

It was barely a moment before the groom and the others descended upon them.

Jabaar noticed Collin hanging back. “Sup,” he checked, entering the kitchen.
“Nothing.”
“Everybody else is enjoying the show.”
“Not my thing.”
“Fair enough.”
“What about you?”
“Uhhh…I’m good for now.”

Collin waved a joint and Jabaar nodded. Collin led the way outside. Jabaar grabbed a couple beers.
